How to get married in Cornwall – Civil Weddings

How to get married in Cornwall or where to get married in Cornwall. Well I guess this depends if you would like your wedding ceremony to be a civil ceremony or a religious ceremony and how many guests you expect to attend your wedding.

For civil weddings there are many wedding venues licensed for civil wedding ceremonies; many hotels throughout Cornwall are now licensed and will accommodate large numbers of guests to the smallest of weddings when the only people attending the wedding are the bride and groom. There are castles, underground caves and a tin mine for couples wishing something a bit more unusual. For contact information and a list of register offices in Cornwall please see arranging your civil wedding

If your preference is for a religious wedding ceremony this can be a bit more complicated to arrange if you do not live in Cornwall. There are different requirements depending on the type of church, eg catholic or church of england, where you would like your ceremony to be held and of course your faith.

These links will be helpful to check on current requirements for religious wedding ceremonies
You may prefer to contact a vicar or minister directly to get the information first hand and check if you have to attend church a number of times in order to get married at the church of your choice in Cornwall. There are many churches in Cornwall and a listing will be available soon. In the meantime if you do have any queries feel free to use the contact form above and I’ll point you in the right direction; don’t forget to let me know your plans and how you would like to celebrate your wedding in Cornwall.

If you would like to get married on a beach this is currently not possible unless there is a roofed structure that is licensed for civil wedding ceremonies. However what is possible is to arrange to have a civil wedding ceremony for perhaps the bride and groom and close family at the nearest registry office where you will be staying in Cornwall or where you live in Cornwall.

If you do not live in Cornwall you could have a civil wedding at your local registry office prior to coming to Cornwall for your “wedding.” This ceremony will be a proper wedding ceremony including your vows and the signing of the marriage register to take care of the legal requirements.

You are then free to arrange what ever location you like be it a beach in Cornwall or woodlands or any other place in Cornwall where to get married and have a blessing. Couples then have the chance of getting married some time before the wedding blessing and have the wedding of their dreams in Cornwall; if you are planning to do this and would like to plan your wedding on a beach do make sure you have a bad weather plan; the weather in Cornwall can change for better or worse very quickly.
